Wet roads and speed led to fatal tractor trailer crash

Due to their massive weight, length and height, tractor trailers can pose a threat to other vehicles on the road. If involved in an accident with a motor vehicle, large trucks can create catastrophic damage, serious injuries and even death to the people who are involved. Collisions are even more likely to occur when large truck operators are distracted, drowsy, speeding or driving recklessly in inclement weather conditions.

Speed and bad weather conditions were both factors in a tragic truck accident that led to the death of a 43-year-old woman. Her 16-year-old son, who was passenger in the vehicle at the time of the accident, received severe injuries.

Officials from the Department of Public Safety reported that the man driving the large truck was traveling at speeds that were unsafe for the current road conditions. It was raining at the time of the incident, which should have prompted the truck driver to slow down and take proper safety precautions. Instead, the freightliner hydroplaned and skidded into oncoming traffic. The woman was unable to miss the approaching big rig and was hit. Once the collision occurred, the semi-trailer attached to the freightliner detached and went across the lanes.

People who are licensed to operate massive freightliners should understand the dangerous consequences of their negligence. They should be held responsible for the damage the occurs when they drive recklessly among other cars. An attorney in Texas may be able to counsel people who have been victimized by negligent truck drivers.
