What do I need for my motorcycle road trip?

As spring brings its warmer temperatures, motorcyclists all across Texas are getting their motorcycles out of storage and prepping them for the months ahead. The vast variety of landscapes throughout the state provide riders with opportunities for some great over-the-road adventures. But as rewarding as a long-distance motorcycle journey can be, there are also some things that riders must keep in mind as they head out on the roadways.

The American Motorcyclist Association makes the following recommendations aimed at helping riders have safer and more enjoyable touring experiences:

  • Prepare for inclement weather by taking along a portable weather radio and waterproof gear. The radio can help you avoid riding square into a dangerous storm, and waterproof clothing will help protect you from the elements.
  • Take along a cell phone and keep track of your exact location as you travel. This means to note the intersections, landmarks, route numbers or anything else you can use to tell the 911 dispatcher where you are in case of an emergency.
  • There are some useful items that you want to bring with you, including a spare key, extra bungee cords, zip ties and some small towels. Also, a GPS device could prove invaluable for keeping you on track.

These are just a few recommendations, and there are many more things you can do to improve the quality of your trip. And remember, your most important goal when taking a road trip is to arrive home safely.

With preparation before your voyage and safe riding techniques while on the road, you should have a terrific time traveling via motorcycle. But there are always risks and if you are injured while en route, you may need compensation to cover your medical and other expenses.

In such a situation, you may wish to contact an experienced personal injury attorney. The attorney could investigate the accident and evaluate your needs. The attorney could then help you take appropriate actions to secure proper compensation.
