Campus car accident kills three Sam Houston students

If you have never been involved in a car accident, you may not understand the range of problems and sorrow that can follow such an event. Even so-called "minor" accidents can leave victims with enormous medical bills and a lifetime of health issues. You may be forced to undergo multiple reconstructive surgeries and years of rehabilitative therapy.

And your minor accident can leave you facing decades of chronic pain. Even with the miracles of modern medicine, many people are left with pain and discomfort that will never go away. For some, it can even lead to problems with alcoholism and drug abuse, as they attempt to "solve" an unsolvable problem of pain.

But even these issues pale alongside those a three Texas families who lost two sons and a daughter earlier this month in a fatal car accident. The three young students a Sam Houston State University were driving across the Huntsville campus when their car crashed against a building. One student survived the car accident and was thankfully reported by the Houston Chronicle as being in "good condition."

The cause of the car accident had not yet been determined, but was still under investigation. A university spokesperson indicated that speed may have been a factor. The news story did not report if the students were wearing seat belts at the time of the car crash.

The tragic accident occurred hours before some of the graduation ceremonies on the campus were to have taken place. For young people, it is difficult to imagine one of their classmates suffering such a fate. For their families, the sorrow must be a great burden to carry this time of year.
