Texas woman killed, daughter injured as shoplifter runs red light

We’ve all heard stories about someone getting behind the wheel of a motor vehicle and making a reckless decision that leads to an accident. Whether it’s some choosing to drink and drive or speeding up to try to get through a yellow light, what can seem like a good decision can quickly turn bad, especially if those actions result in an accident.

Such was the case in a fatal accident in Pasadena recently where a Texas woman’s reckless decision to shoplift then flee the scene ended in a deadly crash that claimed the life of a 50-year-old mother and injured her teenage daughter. According to police, the woman was stopped by a security guard at the Pasadena Walmart around 1 a.m. Instead of returning the stolen merchandise, reports indicate that the woman pushed the security guard to the ground then fled in a nearby pickup truck. But while fleeing, she ran a red light and collided with the vehicle of the 50-year-old mother and her teenage daughter. Emergency crews say the mother was killed instantly while her teenage daughter survived, suffering non-life threatening injuries.

So what was the cost of life, you might be wondering?  A spokesman from the Pasadena Police Department says the total cost of the merchandise was only about $50, which is way less than what the woman will likely pay if the victims’ family decides to take legal action in this case.  Although it’s unknown if the family intends of pursuing civil litigation after the criminal trial takes place, it’s worth noting that they could be entitled to compensation because of one woman’s incredibly reckless actions.
