Texas husband/wife traveling for Thanksgiving in fatal accident

The day before Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel days of the year in Texas and across the country. It also means that drivers should exercise extra caution, since there are typically more cars on the road. Sadly, a fatal accident occurred on Interstate 37 in Live Oak County between a Ford Mustang and a tractor-trailer. The young couple in the Mustang was heading north to visit relatives in Dallas for the holiday.

The crash occurred shortly after 5 a.m. on Nov. 27 as the Mustang driver was pulling into the shoulder to deal with some car trouble. A semi smashed into the back of his car. According to reports, the 25-year-old driver was restrained at the time the crash occurred, but his 24-year-old girlfriend was not. Reports do not indicate what factors may have contributed to the collision.

The Mustang driver died instantly. First responders were unable to resuscitate his girlfriend at the scene, and she was pronounced dead a short time later. The truck driver reportedly suffered from back injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

There is no word as to whether the truck driver faces any traffic citations or charges in the aftermath of this tragedy. If so, it may help the family members of the decedents pursue a claim of wrongful death against him. In Texas, such an action may be successful if there is sufficient evidence that the fatal accident was caused by the negligent or reckless actions of another person. Any compensation awarded may provide some closure and help the families pay for final expenses as they say goodbye to their loved ones.
